Twitter Able to Enhance Learning Ability?


Playing Twitter may be contrary to academic goals, but new research finds that the relationship between the two elements is not so much as people imagine.

Research done by asking the students to contribute to class discussions and assignments that involve Twitter, turned out to increase their activity doubled in one semester.

The study is using 19 survey questions based on the National Survey of Student Engagement to measure the activity of the students at the beginning and end of the seminar-course, for the first year pre-health professional programs of these students. Approximately 70 students are given tasks and discussions related to Twitter, like to tweet about their experiences to the class to read. While about 55 students also received the same assignment, but not using Twitter. So that was quoted by Mashable, Friday (15/11/2010).

In these trials, it appears that those students who use Twitter to be increased compared preoccupations that do not use Twitter. These tests also showed that students who use Twitter has also increased the value of the lesson as a whole in a single semester, by achieving the number 5.

Dr. Reynol Junco, who conducted this trial at Lock Haven University, has conducted trials on the impact of technology on students for 10 years. He said that the results of trials with Twitter This may help the teachers to see the positive side of social networking sites and hope that the teachers who use social networking to see this study as a comparison of the effects of the social networking site for education.
